The Institute for Prospective Technological Studies - European Commission

The Institute for Prospective Technological Studies, based in Seville (Spain), is one of seven European Commission research institutes, making up the Directorate General Joint Research Centre (DG JRC). The mission of the Information Society Unit (IS Unit) at the IPTS is to offer support in the process of policy formulation by interpreting the socio-economic implications of emerging Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) and alerting the Commission services and Community institutions. In particular, the eApplications Action addresses key IS applications that are relevant to the Lisbon objectives: eGovernment, eHealth, eLearning and eInclusion. In 2008, IPTS will carry on a major cross-country study and two more specific ones on the potential of ICT for the promotion of cultural diversity in Europe.
