International Organization for Migration (IOM)
An intergovernmental organization established in 1951, IOM is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. IOM has 120 Members and 91 Observers, including States, IGOs and NGOs. In Romania, IOM works with migrants, migration officials, civil servants; the church; NGOs; central and local media; and the academia. The programmes have covered awareness raising and prevention of irregular migration; assistance to vulnerable groups; technical cooperation on specific migration issues; research; curricula development; legislation development; and advisory services to government and migrants. The IOM projects in Romania have produced specific WebPages and interactive CDROMs as information tools for the public and for project partners.
