What are the Objectives of the Course?

  • understand the basic structures of the Internet and learn basic terms
  • participants shall understand how web applications are working and how to apply them in their professional and personal environment
  • be able to choose applications that suit solution for specific working
  • participants share and exchange experience and knowledge, that they have about the use of web applications and social networks for project management
  • building new networks and active intercultural dialogue

How is the Course Structured?

The workshop consists of a 5-day workshop. Each day includes 4 sessions à 90 minutes, of which two are in the morning and two are in the afternoon. Every following day, we let participants summarise the topics from the previous day.

Day 1: DEFINING THE PLAYGROUND – BASICS AND WORKPLACE FOR THE COURSE
Participants discover “What world we live” in, what tasks they actually have and the tools they use in relation to that as well as how much time they spend on them. Participants also get to know each other.
They will recognize similarities and differences as well as patterns and see through what other ways to communicate within projects.

Day 2: EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD IS LINKED (SOCIAL AND PROJECT BASICS)
What is the idea of the Internet? Learners get an insight into the links and connections that make the Internet and the different kinds there are (objects, people). As a follow up, we'll discuss social networks and what they mean for the learners. Interactively, the participants will represent creatively the links between them (object, person, information) and analyse the outcome.

Day 3: DON'T REINVENT THE WHEEL (ONLINE SERVICES)
What services exist and how can they be used to work collaboratively e.g. during the application process, to manage and disseminate projects. Participants will discover a set of applications and services useful and related to project management tasks.

Day 4: COMBINING SERVICES TO FIND SOLUTIONS FOR TYPICAL TASKS
Based on activities and results from the previous day, participants will realise what applications may be used for certain project tasks. In a group of two, they each select two applications that they will try out and experiment with. Results are shared among the group at the end of the day.

Day 5: MAPPING THE INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPANTS' REAL WORLD
Each participant is now able to choose applications and services that he/she would like to use continuously for their personal or professional tasks. Each participant can now set up chosen applications with our help and prepare their PC environment.

For Whom is this Course?
Our target groups consist of project managers and educational staff in charge of managing projects.
Project managers often manage different kinds of projects in their organisations simultaneously. They (have to) use a mix of different environments and tools to be able to meet the requirements. Often, these are used in a heterogeneous manner instead of homogeneously.
Educational staff are often overburdened with other tasks and under strain when it comes to the use and implementation of web applications. They tend to remain with traditional techniques of development and delivery of their work and this is reflected in their learners and compounds the problem of non-development of flexible learning methods.

We want participants to have a basic knowledge about web applications and services, that they will be able to combine and implement online services not only into their professional life (management, teaching) but also in their daily lives. We do not expect participants to become IT/web experts by the end of the workshop.
We wish, that participants contribute with experiences and examples from their professional environment.
